SNAPSHOTS of Mower Refreshed: From an Interns Lens

MowerRefreshedHeartWeek One

Introduction

Hello! I’m Kari, the summer intern at Mower Refreshed (M.R.). I am excited to share my journey as an intern and a newcomer to Austin, MN with you this summer! I will be providing biweekly posts and snapshots of my experience here in Austin. I hope you enjoy my blog!

Here is a little about myself, I am a recent graduate at Winona State University where I majored in Public Health with an emphasis on Community Health and a minor in Chinese. I have always been interested in health, but my passion for health started in college. I was exposed to the many different avenues of health, but I choose Public Health because I am able to make small differences in whole communities through prevention.

Mower Refreshed is located at 408 4th St. NW.

Adventures in Austin, MN

My first two weeks here in Austin and as an intern at M.R. has been a whirl wind of excitement and nervousness. I started my first day as an intern totally dazed, confused, and nervous. I didn’t know what to expect and I didn’t know what I was doing but I did know that I was going to learn and grow so much here. This experience will add to my 4 years in college.

A few lessons I learned was that not everything is black and white and things won’t always go your way. I learned that you have to be flexible and go with the flow. I learned people are willing to support you, but you have to be able to go out of your comfort zone and connect with others. Most importantly, I learned that my supervisor, Sandy Anderson is superwoman. She has been through so much and is still able to carry herself with a positive attitude. She is a strong, kindhearted visionary. So, THANK YOU for taking me under your wing!

In my first two weeks in Austin I have connected with many different individuals and built community partnerships with different organizations. I was able to explore the town and its many unique streets.

Pics of my adventure in these past two weeks and many more to come!
