Creating a safe a welcoming community

As a community member, you will always have that opportunity to influence someone else’s life. How will you face that challenge? For the past several months I have had the opportunity to work with a wonderful group of people that
truly want to create a safe and welcoming community. This group is formally known as APAC (Austin Positive Action Coalition). The group meets monthly and was organized as part of a 5-year grant that was awarded to the community
of Austin by the Minnesota Department of Human Services, Alcohol & Drug Abuse Division. The Parenting Resource Center is the local host organization for the planning and Implementation of the grant.

Collective Impact

Collaboration is a term tossed around community tables and within organizations with ease, because at the root, we know it’s the right thing to do…and if we are dealing with limited resources it may be desperation to survive that forces you to the table initially, but it’s the collective impact that keeps you there. Could we impact with greater strength if we explore what collaboration in the form of collective impact looks like, feels like, and offers communities who dare to go beyond collaboration?

Take the Sting Out of the Science Fair

science-fair-3The 2017 STEAM Expo (science fair) will be on February 24, 2017 at IJ Holton Intermediate School. While it is still months away, it is not too early to start talking with your 3rd or 4th grade students about participating. It takes time to select and complete a project for this event.
